The Vengeance Trilogy

“The Vengeance Trilogy” are three korean films made by the Park Chan-wook. The three films plot is not connect but all of them are about vengeance, about brutal and savage vengeance. They also share the same obscure, kafkian and violent atmosphere. The three movies are: Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy and Lady Vengeance. All of them are pretty good, but my favorite one is Oldboy. I think it is a good introduction to Korean cinema for those of you who don’t know anything about it.

my favorte upon the three is Lady Vengeance.

All of the three are sick movies with awesome aesthetic and smart plots.

however i’m not sure it’s a good introduction to Korean cinema for everyone.

i’d definitely recommend films like My Sassy Girl or Windstruck for mainstream audience instead!

Oldboy was definitely the best out of the three. The cinematography blew my mind (the 10 minute fight scene all shot from a side angle in that thin hallway). It was moments like that that made the film for me.

Oldboy is amazing. The action sequences are shot beautifully – especially the hallway fight scene that is done in one take! I agree – it is a great way to be introduced to Korean cinema if you’re just beginning!
