Humanoid soccer

Japanese were the first to create a humanoid robot. It’s been almost 10 years since Asimo’s launch, nowadays there are dozens of humanoid robots in Japan. There is a company called Kondo Robot that makes low cost humanoid mini-robots. They cost around 1.000$, and are usually available in electronics shops around Akihabara.

Kondo robots are programmable, but people usually use them using remote controllers. For example, there are competitions where humanoid remote controlled robot teams play soccer. Every year there is a pretty popular competition in Akihabara organized by Robo dreams.

There are lots of “robot competitions”, I personally know: Robolympics, Robogames andRobocup.

Sony Rolly

Yesterday I played with a Sony Rolly, it’s a mixture of MP3 player and a dancing robot. It’s absurd, weird, BUT is original and fun!. It’s amazing how many different movements it has with so few moving parts. Right now is only available in Japan.

Railways maintenance

They are the group of workers who I see every month checking the railway in front of my home. They check every single centimeter and take care that every stone is in its place. The service is not stopped during the maintenance, they just work when there are no trains so they have to stop and move to one side every two or three minutes, hard work! They guy with the flag has to tell everyone when the train is coming.
