Totem sponsored by Oki

I have previously blogged about sponsors being present in shintoist temples, and how even Coca-Cola has its own presence in the Meiji Jingu temple. Outside of the Meiji Jingu temple there are also many totems, tablets, torii gates… which are sponsors by local companies or donated by individuals. Normally the company names are written with Japanese characters and company logos are forbidden. However, sometimes there are exceptions, like for example this totem that caught my attention with the logo of Oki, the renowned electronics and printer manufacturer.

Love Hotel Cosplay

In the Love Hotel in the pictures “costumes”/Cosplay are available to be worn by the girls. It is something offered by many love hotels, however I have never seen Cosplay being offered for boys. You have to pay an extra fee to be able to use these costumes, but on the other hand Wii and DVD Players are available for free in all the rooms. They also give you a free drink to your choice. Which costume would you choose for your girl? Bunny? Schoolgirl? Nurse? Maid? Secretary?

Churaumi Aquarium

I have been procastinating this post for a long time; in fact, the pictures were taken with my old Fuji S9000. I had almost forgotten about them, and then I saw this extraordinary audivisual work by my friend Chris Willson and I started to search through my old photo archives from Okinawa.

Churaumi Aquarium (“churaumi” means “beautilful sea” in Okinawan language) is the second largest aquarium in the world, the most impressive part is the main water tank (which in fact is the number 1 in the world). In this huge tank swim with some “liberty” two enormous whale sharks along with dozens of giant manta rays and many other different fish. It seems all of them get along pretty well :). One of the other things that I enjoyed in the aquarium was having the possibility to touch the starfish they had in another tank.

If you visit Okinawa don’t miss the Churaumi Aquarium. It is located to the west of Nago.
