Geta – 下駄

“Geta” is a type of Japanese traditional footwear. Geta are made from wood and they are usually composed by a base called “dai” and two teeth “ha”. There is also one model that has only one high tooth, I guess is difficult to walk with those. A very fundamental characteristic from “geta” is the sound that the wood makes when you hit the floor while walking. Once you listen it one time, next time you listen the sound you will know that someone is wearing “geta” near you. Nowadays geta are still used, mainly on summer and combined with traditional Japanese wear like “yukatas” or “kimonos”.

Real size dolls

The weirdest thing I’ve ever seen in Akihabara are used panties vending machines. But Dannychoo found something even more weird, a place where you can buy pretty realistic dolls with big boobs. If you want one of these “beautiful android women” it will cost you more than 500.000 yen. Usually these dolls are sold on the Internet but Danny found a showroom and took some really cool pictures.

Smoker awareness campaign

Japanese cities are pretty strict “against” smokers, in most areas it is prohibited to smoke in the streets and they can only smoke in designated areas. The problem is that there are not many rules for restaurants and closed areas where smoker and non-smoker areas are separated by just one sign. And the worst is that there are so many smokers in Japan, for non-smokers is very difficult to find smoke-free areas.

Here are pictures I took during the last week with some ads from a campaign that is trying to explain to the smokers why do we hate their attitude. And what could they do so we the non-smokers and everyone in general can live better. I like the campaign because it’s original and pretty detailed, there are things that I never thought before.

If you are a smoker, you are not a cowboy 🙂
