20th Century Boys – The movie

Naoki Urasawa, the author of Pluto and Monster latest manga hit is 20th Century Boys. I liked a lot 20th Century Boys, it is very similar to Monster in structure but even longer. 20th Century Boys is so popular in Japan that they are making a trilogy of movies. The advertising campaign for the first movie started some weeks a go and it is pretty impressive, there are “signs” everywhere!

Coffee by manga characters

“Roots” it’s a canned coffee brand that has just started an interesting campaign based on Jump manga characters. What it is interesting is that there are many different ads, there are hundreds of combinations where maybe there is the same character but he-she is saying a different thing. If you are patient enough you can find all the ads using the map from this website, but they are spread all around Japan.

Here is my collection made from pictures taken in five different stations in Tokyo. There are characters from Harechi Gakue, Kinnikuman, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Cobra, Dr Slump, Death Note…

Cheap manga

If you like manga then Japan is your paradise, manga is cheap here and there are millions of them. If you buy new manga it costs around 400 and 600 Yen, but if you buy used manga volumes then you only have to pay around 100 Yen (1.1$). Even though manga is still popular, the industry is immersed in big crisis and people talks about the 90s as the golden decade for manga and anime. If people read manga while commuting in the old time, now people prefers to use their keitais (mobile phones) to read the latest news or send emails and play with their Nintendo DS or PSP.
