Used panties vending machines

Used panties vending machines are another example of the particularities of certain aspects of Japanese society. Young ladies, sometimes even teenagers, use some panties for a while, and then they sell them to get some extra money. Selling used panties is not legal in Japan anymore, thus not many of these vending machines remain on the streets of Japan.

It’s my understanding that these are all gone because in actual fact, what ended up happening is that the yakuza got control of “dirty panty manufacturing” and in the end, it was just little old ladies smearing animal urine, feces and blood on to new pairs of panties. The “dirty panties” would then be sold in vending machines such as this one and passed off as “real.” Was this an actual vending machine you saw in Japan or was this picture from somewhere else?
